The castle complex consists of three distinct buildings: a medieval stone house, a Renaissance water castle, and an 18th-century Baroque palace connected by bridges.

The castle estate changed ownership in 1660 when Ernst Moritz von Schachmann acquired it, leading to the construction of the Baroque palace between 1764 and 1766.

The castle grounds feature a 7.5-hectare park that combines Baroque and landscape garden elements, including a collection of rhododendrons established in 1996.

The castle complex stands near the A4 Dresden-Görlitz highway, with public parking spaces and regular bus connections from the city of Görlitz.

During renovation work in 1992, workers discovered preserved wooden ceilings from the 17th century hidden within the water castle structure.
