Schönwalde-Glien, municipality of Brandenburg state, Germany
Schönwalde-Glien is a rural municipality in the Havelland district, made up of several villages including Grünefeld, Paaren im Glien, and Pausin. The area borders the Krämerforst forest and is marked by open fields, private gardens, and scattered residential houses.
The municipality grew from a group of small villages that developed along the old road to Hamburg, which made them natural stop points for travelers. Over time, this road brought inns and rest stops that shaped the character of each village.
The Krämerforst forest that covers part of the area is a popular spot for weekend walks, especially for families from nearby. The old inns along the former main road are still open and serve as meeting points for village residents.
The municipality sits close to Berlin and can be reached by bike along the Havelland cycling route or on foot via marked paths around the Krämerforst. Visiting in dry weather makes it easier to explore the forest tracks and village lanes comfortably.
Guided donkey walks are organized along the forest edge, where the animals set the pace and carry any bags along the way. It is one of the few activities in the area that lets visitors spend time with animals directly in an open natural setting.
