Ohre, Administrative district in Saxony-Anhalt, Germany
Ohre is a historical district in Saxony-Anhalt that stretched across flat and rolling land made up of different regions. It included parts of the Magdeburg Börde, the Drömling, and the Colbitz-Letzlingen Heath, each with its own landscape character.
The district formed in 1994 from merging the former districts of Haldensleben and Wolmirstedt along with additional communities from other areas. In 2007 it ceased to exist when it merged with Bördekreis to create a new administrative unit.
The name comes from the Ohre River, which shaped the land and local life. Farming communities here have long depended on the waterway and the fertile plains it waters.
This is an administrative area easy to travel through by road and water routes. Visitors can drive through the region or use the Mittelland Canal system to experience the landscape from the water.
The Mittelland Canal ran parallel to the Ohre River and was key to moving goods and economic growth. This artificial waterway let ships carry cargo and connected the region to larger trade networks.
