Sankt Johanniskloster

Sankt Johanniskloster is a brick church featuring Gothic architecture with pointed arch windows and ornamental stone details throughout. The building has a single-nave design and combines thick walls with delicate carved embellishments.

Franciscan monks began construction around 1237 in Brandenburg's old town and completed the early Gothic church by 1250. The monastery became an important center for religious and community life in the city.

The choir preserves wall paintings from the 15th century that reflect the religious life of the medieval period. These artworks show how artists of that era expressed their faith through color and form.

After restoration for the 2015 Federal Garden Show, the building received a glass wall panel on its western side. The interior is open to visitors and the architecture can be explored from different vantage points.

The north wall features a rare rosette window made entirely of brick masonry, showing exceptional medieval craftsmanship. This window is often overlooked even though it demonstrates the remarkable skill of local builders.
