Johanneskirche, Protestant church in Elberfeld district, Wuppertal, Germany.
The Johanneskirche features a tent-like wooden structure with walls constructed from recovered rubble materials and colorful stained glass windows depicting motifs from John's Gospel.
Built between 1948 and 1949, this church emerged as Wuppertal's first post-World War II religious building, funded by American Lutheran World Federation donations.
The church space accommodates 450 visitors and serves the Evangelical Church Community of Elberfeld-Südstadt while maintaining regular Protestant services and gatherings.
Located at the edge of von-der-Heydt Park near Friedenshain, the church includes a community center added in 1967 for additional congregational activities.
The building represents one of 43 emergency churches designed by Otto Bartning, incorporating prefabricated wooden elements manufactured in Forchheim near Karlsruhe.
