Villa Oechsler, Architectural heritage monument in Heringsdorf, Germany.
Villa Oechsler is a stately building in Heringsdorf featuring late classical architecture with Swedish porphyry columns topped by Ionic capitals. The structure combines refined 19th-century design details with careful craftsmanship throughout.
The building was completed in 1883 as the residence of entrepreneur Hermann Berthold, founder of Berthold Messing AG. Following World War II, Soviet military forces occupied the property as a command center.
The northern side displays a mosaic created by Italian artist Antonio Salviati, who also worked on decorative elements for Aachen Cathedral. This artistic work remains a defining visual feature of the building today.
The building sits near the beach promenade and currently houses a fashion boutique that incorporates the historical architecture into its retail space. The interior blends contemporary use with the original features of the villa.
The property received the Federal Award for Craftsmanship in Heritage Conservation in 1999 following a comprehensive restoration. The work restored the original Prussian yellow exterior and became a model for historically appropriate renovation.
