Library of the Monastery Metten, Monastic library in Metten, Germany

The Library of the Monastery Metten is a Baroque building constructed between 1722 and 1726, featuring ceiling frescoes, stucco work, and custom wooden bookcases throughout. A New Library section added in 2009 holds 300,000 volumes and includes stained glass design by Robert M. Weber.

The collection began in the 13th century and grew over many centuries. Between 1803 and 1815, the state seized numerous books from the abbey, marking a major disruption in the library's history.

The ceiling paintings show religious and scholarly figures created by artist Innozenz Waräthi. Allegorical statues by Franz Josef Ignaz Holzinger add to the space, reflecting the monastery's intellectual heritage.

The historic library room features intricate decoration that is best explored in natural light. The modern storage section has a clear layout designed for easy navigation and understanding the collection.

The library holds the Mettener Antiphonary, a collection of musical manuscripts from the 15th century with significant historical importance. A 1715 receipt records payment to renowned artist Cosmas Damian Asam for work on the space.
