Pfarrkirche Mariä Himmelfahrt, Parish church in Gars am Inn, Germany
The Baroque church features large pilasters, surrounding galleries, and interior decorated with frescoes painted by Benedikt Albrecht and Johann Eustachius Kendlbacher between 1712 and 1713.
Construction began in 1661 on the site of a Romanesque church from the 12th century that was demolished due to damage from the Thirty Years' War.
The church houses relics brought from Roman catacombs in 1672 and contains significant artworks, including a painting of the Assumption of Mary by Karl Pfleger from 1663.
The church maintains regular mass schedules and welcomes visitors to explore its architectural elements, including the main altar completed in 1693.
The architectural design by Grison architects Kaspar and Christoph Zuccalli represents one of the earliest examples of Baroque architecture in Old Bavaria.
