Rauschberg, Mountain summit in Chiemgau region, Bavaria, Germany

Rauschberg is a mountain in Bavaria's Chiemgau region with a summit at 1,671 meters elevation, located near Ruhpolding. The Plenkalm hut sits nearby on the slopes, and a mountain railway connects the base to the top.

This mountain was shaped roughly 230 million years ago through geological processes as part of the Eastern Alps. Since 1955, it has been part of the Eastern Chiemgau Alps nature reserve and bird protection area.

The name Rauschberg comes from the rushing sound of wind that constantly sweeps across the summit and shapes how visitors experience the place. Locals have used this spot for generations as a social gathering point, particularly at the Plenkalm hut, where hikers meet and share the mountain experience together.

The mountain railway brings visitors directly to the top, while hiking paths offer both easier and more challenging options for different fitness levels. Sturdy footwear and weatherproof clothing are recommended since conditions at the summit can change rapidly.

At the summit, visitors often pass by a distinctive rocky formation that acts like a natural gateway and opens up a striking view of Lake Chiemsee. This stone feature is a favorite photo spot for many, though it rarely gets mentioned in guides.
