Warwer Sand

Warwer Sand is a natural area in Stuhr with oak and birch forests alongside dry grasslands and distinctive sand formations. Numerous winding paths guide visitors through different vegetation zones and sand walls throughout the landscape.

This area developed from shifting dunes in early times and was later shaped by planned afforestation efforts. Over generations, this transformation of the landscape created the place as it appears today.

This space forms part of the Naturpark Wildeshauser Geest and brings together nature conservation with recreation for local people. Residents use the paths for walks and enjoying time outdoors.

Several hiking routes of different difficulty levels are available, and parking facilities are located at the site. Dogs are welcome on the paths, making it practical for visitors with pets.

Open sandy sections provide homes for specialized insects including sand beetles, hunting spiders, sand bees, and wasps. These species depend on the unique conditions of dry sand for feeding and breeding.
