Schloss Stolberg, Renaissance castle in Thuringer Wald, Germany

The three-winged castle complex sits on a mountain spur between Kalten Tal and Lude valley, featuring a round tower and baroque portal with the Stolberg coat of arms.

The oldest section of the castle dates to 1200, while the main Renaissance structure was built in the 16th century under architect Andreas Günther von Komotau.

The castle museum displays the nobility lifestyle through the Red Hall, designed by Karl Friedrich Schinkel, and contains a baroque altar in the palace church.

The German Foundation for Monument Protection maintains the castle since 2002, implementing restoration works and opening sections for public visits.

The castle steps hold a monument to Juliana zu Stolberg, born in 1506, who became the ancestor of numerous European royal and princely houses.
