Ladby ship, Viking ship burial site in Kerteminde Municipality, Denmark.

Ladby ship is a Viking vessel burial in Kerteminde Municipality, measuring about 21.5 meters long and 3 meters wide. The vessel had space for 32 rowers across 16 pairs of oars and was buried with numerous weapons and eleven horses.

The ship was buried in the early 10th century around 925 AD with a high-ranking Viking, showing the person's importance in society. Systematic excavation between 1935 and 1937 uncovered the vessel's construction details and recorded over 2,000 iron rivets that held it together.

The name refers to the location where the ship was buried, reflecting how Vikings connected their identity to the sea and seafaring. Visitors can see how important vessels were not just for travel, but also as final resting places for people of high rank.

The museum displays the original burial site and key artifacts where the ship was excavated. Plan to spend time on a relatively contained area and come prepared to view indoor and outdoor exhibits together.

A complete anchor system with an 11-meter chain was discovered at the site and remains the only known full anchor setup from the Viking Age. This artifact provides rare insight into the practical seafaring equipment Vikings actually used.
