Ekkodalen

Ekkodalen is a rift valley that runs through the Almindingen forest on the island of Bornholm, lined with tall rock walls that create natural corridors. Walking trails wind through the valley, passing between the stone formations and providing access to viewpoints and resting areas.

The valley formed when geological pressures caused the bedrock to fracture, and water combined with freeze-thaw cycles gradually enlarged the crack into a deep passage. Over thousands of years, this natural process carved the path that visitors walk through today.

The narrow valley draws visitors who come to experience how sound bounces between the rock walls, making it a place where people notice the interaction between stone and voice. This natural feature has made the location a destination for those seeking a different kind of outdoor experience.

The valley has multiple access points with parking nearby, and marked trails guide visitors through different sections at a comfortable pace. Sturdy footwear is recommended since the paths cross uneven ground and can be damp in places.

At specific narrow points where rock walls stand close together, visitors can hear their voice bounce back distinctly, creating an acoustic effect that few other places offer. This echo experience is what draws people back to explore the same paths again.
