Egernsund Bridge, Road bridge in Sønderborg Municipality, Denmark
The Egernsund Bridge is a road bridge that links two small towns across the water with a span of about 238 meters. The structure features a folding middle section that lifts to allow boats to pass underneath.
Construction of this bridge finished in 1968 and created an important transport link in southern Jutland. The folding design was developed to serve both road traffic and boat passage at the same time.
The bridge forms part of the transportation network near Gråsten Palace, where members of the Danish Royal Family spend their summer residence.
The bridge lifts regularly for boat traffic, so drivers should be prepared for waiting periods. It helps to check operating times beforehand to avoid unexpected delays during your visit.
The structure has different clearance heights depending on its condition: six meters in the folding section and four meters elsewhere when closed. This variation allows larger boats to navigate through under certain conditions.
