Port Saïd Garden, Public garden in central Algiers, Algeria
Port Saïd Garden is a public green space in central Algiers with various tree species including palms, mulberries, Asian magnolias, bamboo, and ficus trees. The layout allows visitors to walk between the plants and find several seating areas for rest and relaxation.
The garden was created between 1845 and 1853, replacing Ottoman fortifications and the Bab-Azoun gate. It received its current name in 1963 during a visit by Egyptian leader Nasser.
The garden serves as a gathering place where locals spend time together and celebrate community events. It is a living space where you see people resting, walking, and conversing throughout the day.
You can reach the garden via metro line 1 at Ali Boumendjel station or by buses 7, 90, 101, and 113. The site is easily walkable, and on warm days you should seek shaded spots under the trees.
The garden sits on elevated ground and offers clear views of Algiers harbor and the Mediterranean Sea. This raised position makes it a favored spot for visitors seeking views across the water.
