Thy National Park

Thy National Park stretches 55 kilometers along the northwestern coast of Jutland and covers 244 square kilometers of varied landscapes. The area combines dunes, heathland, wetlands, forests, and lakes within a unified natural space.

The area was settled during the Stone Age, with dolmens, burial mounds, and flint production sites showing evidence of this early occupation. These archaeological remains indicate an organized society that thrived here thousands of years ago.

The fishing villages of Hanstholm and Stenbjerg still show their traditional connection to the sea in their buildings and daily rhythms. Klitmøller has become a gathering place for water sports enthusiasts who come for wind and waves.

The park can be explored through an extensive network of walking and cycling paths, including the 93-kilometer West Coast Trail. This trail connects multiple points of interest and offers visitors various entry points and stages for different lengths of visits.

The sandy dune heaths shelter rare European habitats where red deer, white-tailed eagles, and cranes find refuge. These protected ecosystems allow visitors to encounter animals that are uncommon across Western Europe.
