Kastrup is a residential quarter on the east coast of Amager island in Denmark that serves administrative and commercial functions for the Copenhagen metropolitan area. The area includes housing, business zones, and major public institutions such as the National Aquarium.
The area began to develop in the late 1700s when a lime factory and harbor were built for chalk extraction and transport. This early industry laid the foundation for the growth that led to the present-day city.
