The Blue Planet, Public aquarium in Kastrup, Denmark
The Blue Planet is an aquarium in Kastrup with a distinctive exterior shaped like a water whirlpool. The building features aluminum panels and houses more than 50 exhibition spaces filled with millions of liters of water.
The history began in 1939 with a smaller aquarium in Charlottenlund before it was relocated to Kastrup decades later. In 2013, it reopened under its current name and with a modern design at this location.
The facility presents water environments from different regions around the world, from tropical waters to African lakes. Visitors can observe how fish and other marine animals live and interact within their natural habitats.
The location lies near Copenhagen Airport and is easy to reach by car or public transport. Plan enough time to explore the different areas at a comfortable pace.
A main tank holds millions of liters of water and features a transparent tunnel 16 meters long running through it. Visitors can observe hammerhead sharks and rays swimming directly above and around them while walking through.
