VM Houses, Residential complex in Ørestad, Denmark.
The VM Houses are two residential buildings in Ørestad that form the letters V and M when viewed from above. They contain around 80 different apartment layouts, offering residents a range of sizes and configurations to choose from.
The buildings were completed in 2005, marking the first major project by architects Bjarke Ingels and Julien De Smedt in Ørestad. This project became a pioneering example in the urban transformation of the former industrial area.
The complex has become a defining landmark of Ørestad, drawing residents who value contemporary design and urban living. The varied apartment configurations support different household types and contribute to a diverse community within the neighborhood.
The V-shaped building is elevated on five-meter columns, so the public courtyard underneath remains accessible to everyone. Visitors can easily reach the nearby Metro station and the adjacent park from this location.
The M building houses 95 apartments and differs from its V-shaped neighbor by having a denser layout. This varied approach shows thoughtful planning to maximize housing while adapting to different site constraints.
