Hotel D'Angleterre, deluxe hotel in Copenhagen, Denmark
Hotel D'Angleterre is a hotel on Kongens Nytorv, the central square of Copenhagen, and one of the most recognized addresses in the city. The building houses a ballroom with mirrors and chandeliers known as the Mirror Ballroom, along with the Palm Court and several salons used for events and gatherings.
The hotel was founded more than 270 years ago and quickly became a gathering point for travelers and notable guests passing through Copenhagen. The building has been renovated several times over the centuries, but has kept its historic facade facing the square.
The name of the hotel comes from its early focus on English travelers, and that international character is still visible in how the rooms and public spaces are decorated today. The Palm Court, with its colored glass ceiling, draws both guests and visitors who come simply to sit and watch the light change through the glass.
The hotel sits directly on Kongens Nytorv, where a metro station runs beneath the square, making it easy to reach from most parts of the city. From the front door, Nyhavn and the Strøget shopping street are both within a short walk.
The hotel runs its own pastry shop called Maison, open to anyone passing by, where cakes and sweets are sold in pink boxes that have become recognizable in the city. During the Fastelavn season, a Danish celebration before Lent, the shop sells fastelavnsboller, soft filled buns that are a local tradition.
