Hvissingestenen, Glacial erratic in Glostrup Municipality, Denmark.
Hvissingestenen is a large granite boulder in Glostrup Municipality. The rock measures roughly 6 meters long, 5 meters wide, and 4 meters high, weighing approximately 270 tons.
Workers discovered the massive stone during the winter of 1966-1967 while installing a water pipeline for Ballerup Municipality. The find occurred during construction work that brought it to its current location.
The stone's name originates from the nearby village of Hvissinge, where residents were known as 'hvass entries', meaning people who lived on the moor.
The stone is located at Oxbjergvej 16 in Glostrup, positioned roughly 90 meters from its original spot at the eastern edge of Vestskoven forest. Visitors can reach it on foot and view it from various angles around the site.
The boulder is the largest granite block found on Zealand island and ranks fourth among Denmark's most massive stones. Its enormous size and rare status make it a notable example of the region's glacial history.
