Thors Tårn, High-rise building in Thors Bakke, Randers, Denmark
Thors Tårn is a residential high-rise with 19 floors built from white concrete elements and featuring glass balconies throughout its structure. The building houses a mix of family apartments, senior residences, and owner-occupied units along with parking and bicycle storage.
This location was once home to the Thor Brewery, which closed in 2003 and gave the area its name. The tower rose later as a redevelopment of the former brewery site and was completed in 2021.
The sculpture 'Bar Roma' by Erik A. Frandsen stands in the public space as a fallen figure that reflects on the site's past. Visitors notice how this artwork connects the new architecture to the history of the place where people gather.
The building is centrally located in Randers with good accessibility on foot and close to public transportation options. Visitors should know this is a residential structure where public access is limited to exterior areas.
Installing the balconies required workers suspended by ropes in mid-air to coordinate with crane operators who could not always see them directly. This unusual construction method made the project a significant technical challenge.
