Natura 2000-område nr. 169 Havet og kysten mellem Karrebæk Fjord og Knudshoved Odde, Marine conservation area in Næstved and Vordingborg, Denmark
This marine conservation area stretches along the coast and shallow waters between two fjords in southern Zealand. It contains sandbanks, mudflats, brackish lagoons, and extensive reef systems that form a diverse underwater environment.
The site received designation as a Site of Community Importance in 2005 and became a Special Area of Conservation in 2011. This official recognition reflected a commitment to protecting the marine ecosystem under European conservation laws.
The region hosts wintering and breeding grounds for seabirds like great crested grebes and mergansers that arrive with seasonal migrations. Locals and visitors have long valued these shores for observing wildlife during different times of year.
The area is best explored on foot along the shoreline or by small boat through the shallow waters. Spring through early autumn offers the best conditions for visiting, when weather is mild and wildlife is most active.
The Dybsø Fjord section contains some of the clearest waters in Denmark with extensive stonewort plants on the seabed. This clarity allows an unusually rich underwater plant life that is rare in other Danish coastal areas.
