The municipality extends across 621 square kilometers of southeastern Zealand, encompassing multiple towns, islands, and coastal areas near the Baltic Sea.
During the 2007 Danish municipal reform, Vordingborg Municipality emerged through the consolidation of Langebæk, Møn, Præstø, and the previous Vordingborg municipalities.
The municipality maintains nine principal communities, including Vordingborg, Præstø, and Stege, each contributing to the region's social and economic development.
The Masnedsund Bridge and Farø Bridges connect the municipality to neighboring regions, facilitating transportation between Zealand and the islands of Masnedø and Falster.
At coordinates 55.008333N and 11.910278E, the municipality includes the Goose Tower, the last remaining structure of the medieval Vordingborg Castle.
