Las Rozas de Madrid is a residential municipality in the Madrid Metropolitan Area in the Community of Madrid, Spain, covering around 59 square kilometers (about 23 square miles). The terrain alternates between built neighborhoods, commercial zones, and wooded hills along the Guadarrama River at an elevation of roughly 718 meters (2356 feet).
Archaeological finds point to Roman settlements that once populated this area before it later became farmland and pastures. Toward the end of the 20th century, the municipality transformed into a suburb with numerous new housing developments for families from the capital.
The town takes its name from a medieval agricultural practice of clearing land to create space for crops and grazing. Today it serves as home for commuters who work in the capital and return after hours to quieter neighborhoods with single-family houses and gardens.
Three railway stations provide connections into central Madrid, complemented by bus lines running through residential and commercial areas. Visitors can choose between busier centers with shops and quieter streets with green spaces, depending on what they wish to see.
A mansion from the 1960s once served as a filming location for movie productions led by Samuel Bronston. The building housed sets and props for several projects before it was later repurposed for other uses.
