Castell del Puig, Medieval castle in El Puig de Santa Maria, Spain.
The castle rests upon a hilltop with stone walls, defensive towers, and remnants of ancient fortifications that controlled access to Valencia.
Built by Arabs in the 11th century, the castle changed hands between Muslims and Christians, including El Cid and King James I of Aragon.
The fortress represents medieval military architecture and received recognition as a Cultural Heritage Site of Spain in 2002.
Visitors can explore the castle grounds without entrance fees and examine the remaining walls, towers, and auxiliary structures throughout the year.
The castle features a moat and a separate tower connected by a bridge that enhanced guard visibility and defensive capabilities.
