Castillo de Albalat dels Sorells

Castillo de Albalat dels Sorells is a Gothic castle in an eastern Spanish village with four corner towers reaching approximately 18 meters high. The structure organizes itself around a central courtyard surrounded by various halls and rooms.

The castle originated in the 14th century when Berenguer de Codinats acquired the estate and established it as a residence. The decorative elements were added later in the 15th century under Tomás Sorells Segarriga's ownership and patronage.

The castle displays Gothic elements such as pointed arches, stone galleries, and carved capitals with medieval shields and floral patterns. These decorative details reflect the taste and wealth of the families who once lived here.

The building now serves as the Town Hall after extensive restoration that preserved its medieval structure while adapting the interior for municipal offices. Visitors can view the exterior facade freely, but should check with local authorities about interior access since it functions as an active government building.

The main facade displays a symmetrical design with a rounded arch entrance made of large stone voussoirs and two Gothic windows positioned above. This balanced appearance was unusual for medieval residences of its period and reveals deliberate design intent by its builders.
