Puente de la Ribera

Puente de la Ribera is a contemporary bridge spanning the Nervión River with a steel and concrete framework connecting central Bilbao's two banks. It accommodates vehicle lanes and spacious pedestrian pathways, providing direct access between the commercial district and residential areas.

Designed by Fernando Arzadun Ibarraran in the early 21st century, this structure emerged from major urban renewal initiatives along Bilbao's waterfront. It represents a phase when the city reconnected with its river through contemporary infrastructure.

The bridge sits near traditional markets and local neighborhoods, functioning as a gathering point for residents during regional celebrations. People use this crossing to move between different districts while staying connected to the river's daily rhythm.

Access is straightforward on foot or by bike using wide, level pedestrian paths that make crossing simple. Early morning or late afternoon visits work best, when traffic is lighter and you can explore the surroundings more easily.
