Castell de Perputxent

Castell de Perputxent is a castle ruin in Lorcha built on a hillside with rock formations. The main tower rises about 20 meters high and has three habitable floors, while polygonal walls and additional fortifications protect the grounds.

The fortress was built in the Middle Ages and changed hands multiple times over its history. An important moment came in 1319 when it passed to the Order of Montesa after two years of royal control.

The castle shows features of both Islamic and Christian building styles that blend in its structure. Walking around, you can see how different rulers modified the stones and walls to suit their own needs.

The ruin sits near the town center of Lorcha and is easy to reach, offering views of the Serpis River and the surrounding valley. Its hilltop location means the path upward is steep, so sturdy shoes are helpful.

The fortress used the natural rock formation of the hillside as both foundation and protection. This close relationship between nature and construction makes the site special, as the stones and rock almost form one unified structure.
