Antic Escorxador, Art Nouveau building in Igualada, Spain
Antic Escorxador is an Art Nouveau building in Igualada featuring a rectangular main hall with two quadrangular sections connected by covered corridors. The structure extends across multiple areas and includes courtyards and auxiliary buildings positioned toward the rear.
Architects Pau Salvat i Espasa and Isidre Gili i Moncunill designed the building in 1903, with its inauguration occurring in 1905 outside the city center. The project emerged during a period of industrial growth in the region.
The building reflects early 20th-century Catalan architecture through its thoughtful design and decorative elements that remain visible throughout.
The site comprises large connected areas with covered sections that allow exploration in various weather conditions. The symmetrical layout with wings on either side makes it straightforward to navigate and view all parts of the complex.
The building is adorned with green ceramic decorations that embellish its facades and internal areas in a manner that underscores its Art Nouveau character. These ceramics demonstrate the craftsmanship quality typical of the early 1900s.
