Transfiguració del Senyor, Gothic parish church in Artà, Spain.
The Transfiguración del Senyor is a Gothic parish church in Artà with characteristic pointed arches and ribbed vaults. Its bell tower rises 25 meters and houses several bells from different centuries.
The church was rebuilt in 1573 to replace a 13th-century structure that had become too small. The new construction was needed to accommodate the town's growing population.
The church expresses its connection to the local community through thirteen side chapels dedicated to different saints. Saint Lucia's chapel preserves a late 16th-century altarpiece depicting religious scenes that reflects the craftsmanship of that era.
The church stands on Sant Salvador hill and remains an active place of worship. Guided tours are available to explore the museum, ossuary, and architectural features.
The main altar, completed in 1906, depicts the Transfiguration with Elijah and Moses alongside the apostles Peter, James, and John. Few visitors notice this later addition despite it being the namesake scene of the entire church.
