Artà

Artà is a municipality on the northeast coast of Mallorca that spreads across gently rolling terrain dotted with limestone cliffs and pine forests. The landscape also includes fruit orchards and agricultural areas that blend with the residential sections of the town and surrounding villages.

The area was settled during the Talayot period and later influenced by Roman and Arab presence, both leaving marks on the landscape. Medieval Christian conquest reshaped the settlement and established the foundations of how the place exists today.

The name comes from a nearby cave that has been known since ancient times and shapes how locals view their past. This connection to nature and history remains visible today in how residents value their heritage and surroundings.

Walking is the best way to explore this area since main attractions like the cave and the town center are within reasonable distance. Wear sturdy shoes as the terrain is rolling and some paths are uneven or unpaved.

The cave that gives this place its name is considered one of the island's most intriguing natural formations with underground lakes and stalactites. Visitors can descend into these subterranean chambers and discover a completely different world beneath the surface.
