Cape Silleiro Lighthouse, Coastal lighthouse in Baredo, Baiona, Spain
Cape Silleiro Lighthouse is a white tower extending 30 meters from a rectangular structure positioned on the coast near Punta de A Negra. The entire facility sits approximately 85 meters above the Atlantic Ocean, making it a visible landmark across the surrounding waters.
The original lighthouse structure was built in 1866 to guide ships navigating these waters. The Port Authority of Vigo replaced it in 1924 with the current structure to provide more reliable navigation support for maritime traffic.
The fortress structures with sealed cannons show how this location once served both as a navigation aid and a defensive position for the coast. Visitors can see these military remains and understand the dual purpose this place held in protecting local waters.
A wooden platform near the lighthouse provides viewing areas without requiring visitors to climb stairs. From this accessible spot, you can observe the Cíes Islands, Monteferro, and Panxón while taking in the surrounding landscape.
The lamp system uses a 3,000-watt power output that projects light beams across significant distances. During favorable weather, ships can detect this signal from far away and adjust their course accordingly.
