Concepción Feminist Mural, Feminist wall painting at Centro Deportivo Municipal Concepción, Madrid, Spain
The mural at the sports center displays portraits of influential women including Comandanta Ramona, Rosa Parks, Frida Kahlo, and Angela Davis on a large exterior wall. The artwork spreads across the facade in a way that makes each figure clearly visible from the street.
The mural was completed in September 2018 through the Compartiendo Muros initiative following a community proposal from La Mesa de Igualdad y Diversidad. It emerged as a response to the need for public dialogue about gender violence and women's rights.
The mural carries the message 'Capacities don't depend on your gender,' reflecting how the community uses public walls to discuss equality and gender issues today.
The mural is located at Calle José del Hierro 5 and remains accessible from outside throughout the year as part of the sports center's exterior wall. You can view it directly from the street without needing to enter the facility.
Local residents directly painted sections of the mural during its final three days of creation. This hands-on participation transformed it from a professional project into a genuine community artwork.
