Tomb of Louis XII and Anne of Brittany, Renaissance royal tomb in Saint-Denis, France
The marble mausoleum features twelve arcades housing statues of apostles, with kneeling figures of the royal couple on the upper level.
Commissioned by Francis I between 1516 and 1531, this monument commemorates King Louis XII and his wife Anne of Brittany after their deaths.
The tomb combines Italian Renaissance artistic elements with French royal symbolism through its architectural design and sculptural representations of cardinal virtues.
Visitors can observe both the praying figures of the monarchs on top and the realistic recumbent effigies showing post-mortem details below.
The tomb's base displays bas-reliefs depicting Louis XII's military victories in Italy, carved in the style of ancient Roman triumphal monuments.
