Cathédrales du Rail, Railway maintenance halls in Saint-Denis, France

Two parallel industrial buildings with glass-tiled facades, reinforced concrete structures, and 19-meter vaults form the railway maintenance complex near Gare du Nord.

Built in 1872 for steam locomotive maintenance by Compagnie du Nord, these halls were bombed in 1944 and reconstructed in the 1950s.

The structures will house France's first museum dedicated to street art and hip-hop culture, featuring exhibition spaces and dance practice areas.

The site transformation includes 650 residential units, a childcare center, local shops, and services across 6 hectares of redeveloped industrial land.

Natural light streams through extensive glass-tiled walls, creating cathedral-like illumination patterns throughout the 8,400-square-meter industrial space.
