Layer Marney Tower

Layer Marney Tower is a Tudor gatehouse with red brick and terracotta details standing in Layer Marney, England. The building was part of a larger palace plan that remained unfinished after the builder's son died, leaving the tower itself as the most striking structure on the property.

Henry Marney, Lord Privy Seal to King Henry VIII, started building this palace in 1520 to showcase his wealth and status. His son continued the work after him, but died before completing it, leaving the grand vision forever incomplete.

The interior spaces showcase designs chosen by former owner Walter de Zoete, who gathered furniture, paintings, and decorative objects throughout his life. These collections reflect the personal tastes and interests that shaped how people lived in this house over time.
