Corgarff Castle, Military museum and castle in Aberdeenshire, Scotland
The stone fortress features a distinctive round tower with thick walls, eight-pointed star-shaped perimeter wall, and military architecture spanning multiple centuries.
Built in 1530 by the Elphinstone family, the castle served as a government garrison after the 1745 Jacobite Rising to control illegal whisky production.
The tragic burning of the castle in 1571 and the death of Lady Forbes inspired a traditional Scottish ballad called Edom o Gordon.
Visitors can access the castle from April through September, with exhibitions displaying military artifacts and information about Highland warfare tactics.
The fortress maintains its eighteenth-century military alterations, including the stark white exterior walls that made it visible across long distances for surveillance.
