Stratfield Saye House, Country estate and museum in Stratfield Saye, Hampshire, England.

Stratfield Saye House is a large country mansion with two stories and an attic, finished in apricot-colored stucco and set within extensive landscaped grounds. The estate comprises multiple buildings and now operates as a museum where visitors can explore its rooms and the displays within.

The British government purchased this estate in 1817 as a gift to Arthur Wellesley, first Duke of Wellington, following his victory at the Battle of Waterloo. The house has remained with the Wellington family ever since and reflects its deep connection to their history.

The Wellington Exhibition in the stables shows weapons and personal items from the Duke's life, documenting his military career and achievements. Visitors can see everyday objects and mementos that reveal how the family maintained its connection to this place over many generations.

Visitors can only see the house through pre-booked guided tours that run during certain months of the year. It is wise to plan ahead and book in advance, as places are limited.

Within the estate stands a remarkable bronze funeral carriage built from French cannons captured at Waterloo. This unusual object links craftsmanship with military history in an intriguing way.
