Bryn Cader Faner, Bronze Age burial site in Gwynedd, Wales
Bryn Cader Faner is a round stone cairn from the Bronze Age located on a mountain ridge in Gwynedd, Wales. The site consists of a circular mound surrounded by roughly 20 thin stone pillars that project outward, creating a distinctive appearance from the surrounding landscape.
The cairn was built roughly 5000 years ago in the late Bronze Age as a burial site for a member of a prehistoric community. Archaeological investigation revealed a central stone burial chamber within the mound.
The arrangement of stone pillars around the cairn represents advanced construction methods and burial practices of prehistoric communities in Bronze Age Wales.
The site sits in hilly terrain with uneven paths and requires good preparation for a visit. Visitors should wear suitable footwear and bring weather protection, and try to come on clear days to locate the position more easily.
The site was used as a target range by the British Army during World War II, which damaged several stones. These marks of conflict are still visible today on the eastern side of the monument.
