Peckham Library, Public library in London Borough of Southwark, England.
Peckham Library is a public library in the London Borough of Southwark, in the Camberwell area. The building has a tilted upper section and large copper-framed windows that make it easy to spot from the square below.
The building was completed in 2000 and designed by architect Will Alsop, who was known for unconventional approaches to public buildings. It was built as part of a broader effort to invest in the Peckham area during the late 1990s.
The library hosts community events and exhibitions that reflect the interests of residents in this part of London. Local groups and organizations regularly use the spaces for meetings and activities.
The library sits right on Peckham Square and is easy to reach on foot from the surrounding streets. Inside, the different areas for reading, computers, and study are clearly laid out across the floors.
On the top floor, three pod-shaped rooms hang from the ceiling and serve as separate reading spaces with views over the surrounding area. These pods are partly visible from outside through the building's large windows, and they are what gives the upper section its unusual shape.
