All Souls Church, Halifax

All Souls Church is a Gothic Revival house of worship in Haley Hill featuring a tall stone spire and intricate glasswork throughout. The building presents elaborate stonework on its facade and maintains a well-preserved Victorian character inside.

A local industrialist commissioned a well-known architect to design and build this structure around 1859. It was erected during a time of major urban expansion, when such ambitious religious projects displayed the region's prosperity.

The interior displays Victorian craftsmanship through marble columns, encaustic floor tiles, and stained glass windows created by local workshops. The decor reflects the wealth that the city's industrialists invested in their religious buildings.

The building is managed by a conservation organization and open to visitors on certain days or during special events. It is wise to check opening times in advance, as access can be limited.

Inside sits one of the city's largest organs from the 19th century, which is awaiting restoration. This instrument was once celebrated for its rich sound and remains a silent witness to the city's musical tradition.
