The land belonged to Rievaulx Abbey and Drax Priory until 1540, when Walter Paslew acquired it and built the mansion house in 1616.
The Chain Saw Carvings Sculpture Trail, established in 2005, displays wooden artworks throughout the grounds, creating an outdoor gallery experience.
