Broadcasting House, Broadcasting headquarters in Llandaff, Cardiff, United Kingdom.
Broadcasting House was a modernist complex with three interconnected blocks housing studios, offices, and broadcasting facilities on a large site north of Cardiff city center. The buildings served as the main production hub for radio and television content across Wales for several decades.
The building opened for operations in 1966 and served as BBC Wales headquarters from 1967 until 2019, with television facilities added in the 1970s to complement the existing radio studios. It became a central production facility for Welsh broadcasting during decades of media expansion and change.
The complex produced English and Welsh language content for radio, television, and online platforms, serving as the national broadcaster for Wales until its closure.
The site is no longer accessible as the buildings were demolished between 2021 and 2022 to make way for redevelopment. The location is being transformed into a new residential neighborhood with hundreds of homes.
Welsh architect Ivan Dale Owen designed the building drawing inspiration from modernist pioneers like Walter Gropius, creating long low-rise sections with expansive glass walls. This approach made it a notable example of contemporary design thinking applied to broadcast facilities.
