Dunston Pillar, Grade II listed stone tower in Dunston, England

Sir Francis Dashwood commissioned this tower in 1751 to guide travelers through dangerous heathland notorious for highway robberies. The lantern operated until 1808 and was England's only land-based navigation light of its kind.
The location transformed into a social center with a bowling green and dining hall, where the Lincoln Club organized regular entertainment events.
The tower sits on private land and can be viewed from the A15 road. The former bust of King George III is now displayed at Lincoln Castle.
This structure served as England's only land lighthouse until 1808, featuring an octagonal lantern that guided travelers across dangerous terrain.
