Howden Dyke Island spans 19 acres in the River Ouse, measuring approximately 1,380 by 890 feet with dimensions that fluctuate based on water levels.
The land transformed into an island during the 1950s following the construction of a fishing pond in the 1920s, which initiated gradual erosion processes.
The Royal Society for the Protection of Birds purchased the island in 2014 for £47,500 to maintain its status as a wildlife conservation area.
Visitors can only reach the island by boat, and water levels vary significantly with a tidal range extending up to six meters throughout the day.
The island forms part of the Humber Estuary Site of Special Scientific Interest, supporting numerous bird species in its protected natural environment.
