Nothe Gardens, Public gardens at Nothe Peninsula, England
Nothe Gardens is a public garden space on the Nothe Peninsula near Weymouth, laid out with winding paths through grassy areas and planted sections. The elevated location provides clear views across both the Weymouth and Portland harbor waters below.
A fort was built here in 1872 to protect Portland Harbor from potential attack. The structure was equipped with modern anti-aircraft weapons during the Second World War to defend against air threats.
The gardens take their name from the Nothe Peninsula, a local landmark that shapes how people think of this waterfront area. Visitors come here to enjoy views and connect with the natural surroundings in a way that has become part of daily life for many in the community.
The gardens can be reached on foot from Hope Square located behind Weymouth Harbor, with parking options available nearby. The paths are easy to walk and viewpoints are positioned throughout the space for clear sight lines.
This location served as an official viewing area during the 2012 Olympic sailing competitions. Thousands of spectators gathered here daily to watch one of the world's most prestigious sporting events unfold on the water below.
