Palace Theatre

The Palace Theatre on Green Street is a red sandstone building with an asymmetrical front and a 110-foot clock tower. The venue contains several performance spaces and was originally designed as a market building before becoming an entertainment venue.

The building opened in 1863 as a corn market facility designed by James Ingram. Over the decades it transformed into a music hall and cinema before becoming the theatre it is today.

The theatre serves as a gathering place where the community comes together for performances and concerts throughout the year. People from the area treat it as a social hub for entertainment and live experiences.

The Grand Hall hosted a performance in 1973 that inspired a glam rock band to write one of their biggest hit songs. The story of what happened that night remains part of music history and is still remembered by fans today.
