Old Church of St Gwenllwyfo, Llanwenllwyfo, Medieval church remains in Dulas, Anglesey, Wales

The Old Church of Saint Gwenllwyfo in Llanwenllwyfo is a stone ruin situated on Anglesey in Wales. The remaining walls enclose what was once a cemetery, and the site is now surrounded by trees that shelter the crumbling structure and help visitors picture how it once stood.

The church was built in the 15th century to replace an earlier place of worship on the same site. It served the local community until the mid-1800s, when a new building was constructed nearby and the old structure began to fall into disrepair.

The building takes its name from Saint Gwenllwyfo, a 7th-century Welsh holy woman whose memory remained central to local religious life. This dedication reflects how deeply rooted female saints were in the spiritual traditions of medieval Anglesey.

The site sits in a wooded area next to an old cemetery and can be reached with relative ease. Visitors should watch for uneven ground and low walls that may affect how safely they move around the ruins.

The ruins once contained a rectangular stone baptismal font from the 12th century, making it one of the oldest religious objects from the original site. This vessel survives as a rare relic from an era predating the current visible structure.
