Old Joint Stock Theatre, Theatre and pub in Temple Row West, Birmingham, United Kingdom
The Old Joint Stock Theatre is a theatre and pub in central Birmingham, housed in a Grade II listed Victorian building with ornate ceilings and traditional interior details. The performance space holds around 95 seats and sits alongside a working pub within the same building.
The building opened in 1864 as a banking hall and was later converted into an entertainment venue. Much of the original Victorian interior, including the decorative ceiling work, survived this change of use.
The theatre presents a range of musical performances, comedy shows, and dramatic plays to its audience. The productions reflect the diverse interests of the local community.
The venue is within easy walking distance of Birmingham city centre and straightforward to find on foot. On show nights the small hall fills up fast, so arriving early gives you a better choice of where to sit.
The original banking hall layout is still visible in the proportions of the theatre space today, even after its long conversion. The high vaulted ceilings were designed to give a sense of solidity for a financial institution, not for a stage.
